Thank you for taking the first step in considering a Catholic education for your child in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle for 2017.
We recognise that this is one of the most important decisions as parents or carers, you will ever have to make. However you can be rest assured that our 45 primary schools and 11 secondary schools will offer your child a nurturing, encouraging and safe environment to learn, achieve and grow academically, spiritually, physically and emotionally from Kindergarten to Year 12.
The enrolment process
To enrol your child at one of our primary or secondary schools, the first thing to do is simply contact your local Catholic School to request an enrolment package. Each school requires applicants to fill out an enrolment form and will often request specific documentation (such as a birth certificate) to accompany the enrolment form.
Each school has its own enrolment policy and procedures which sometimes involves meeting with the Principal of the school with the child you wish to enrol, however the school’s enrolment package will explain all of this.
If you’ve recently moved to the area and are unsure about what the closest Catholic School is to you, use the "School Finder" where you can enter your postcode to view schools closest to your home. Alternatively, you can call the Catholic Schools Office to enquire and request an enrolment package.
When is the enrolment period?
Catholic schools accept enrolments at any time of the school year and you are encouraged to enquire about any availabilities should you wish to have your child attend a Catholic school mid-way through the year.
However enrolments into Catholic schools for the following year take place between February and June and in particular, during Catholic Schools Week, when parents and their children are invited to come to the school’s open day and enrol.
How old does my child need to be to enrol in Kindergarten?
Children who turn five years old on or before May 31 are eligible for enrolment into Kindergarten for that year.
Does my child need to be Catholic to attend a Catholic School?
No. The Catholic school is open to all who want to share its educational goal, inspired by Christian principles. For more information, view "Does my child need to be Catholic to go to a Catholic school?".
A small number of places in schools in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle may be available to overseas students who share our Catholic faith and ethos. At the present time, no students with a 571 visa subclass are able to be enrolled into diocesan Catholic schools.
