St Joseph's Primary School, Dungog, is a school committed to the provision of quality education in a caring and nurturing Christian environment.
As indicated in the school's Vision Statement, the community endeavour to live out the School Motto "God Is Love" through the care and respect afforded to each individual involved with the school - student, teacher, parent, parishioner or any member of the community. St Joseph's is a community which aims to provide an environment that is welcoming, friendly, caring, just and compassionate to the needs of all.
As a Catholic school, St Joseph's build on its Catholic identity in a variety of ways. Students and staff enjoy strong links with the local parish community and endeavour to keep strengthening these links with meaningful liturgies, a strong sense of prayer, symbolism and ritual. The school also provide weekly or fortnightly opportunities for liturgical celebrations - which involve students, parents and members of the local parish. Masses are provided for the school and parish community once a month and these occasions are an opportunity to celebrate both who we are and what we represent - following the traditional values set down by the Sisters of St Joseph over 100 years ago.
St Joseph's is a modern school with four class groupings. As a result of Government funding in recent years and with the assistance of the Building Education Revolution (BER) funding, St Joseph's can boast a school which offers tremendous facilities, up-to-date resourcing and infrastructure and a well maintained playground. The school features excellent technological facilities with each classroom utilising its own SMARTboard and a bank of new computers available for the use of all classes in the school library. The school is very well resourced with programs designed to assist with the learning of all children in each of the key learning areas.
The staff of St Joseph's continually endeavour to improve upon the levels of student achievement in the various Key Learning Areas (KLAs) - particularly both Literacy and Numeracy. The school endeavours to provide a holistic education for each individual - aiming to develop each student academically, socially, mentally and physically. To this end, St Joseph's have a diversified sports program - utilising both the considerable talents of the parent body and the sporting facilities of the town - which the local council generously makes available to the school. This level of support is of enormous benefit to St Joseph's as a school community and to the children in particular.
In addition to the school music program, St Joseph's has been able to offer individual music tuition and has been developing a full school choir in the past twelve months. The school community appreciate and have responded to the varied needs of the students and aim to provide a diversified range of opportunities for the children to develop their sporting and cultural abilities both within and beyond the local school environment.
Students of St Joseph's Primary School, Dungog, are encouraged to continue their Catholic education by attending St Peter's Campus, Maitland.
