On 21 May, 21 students from across the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese competed in the 2026 Diocesan Tennis Championships at Newcastle City Tennis Courts. Despite some intermittent showers, students showed great skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.
In the Girls Junior Competition Genevieve Threlfo from St Francis Xavier’s College, Hamilton was crowned champion, with fellow student Tatiana Krstevski finishing runner-up.
The Boys Junior Competition saw Justus Matheson from St Joseph’s College, Aberdeen defeat Toby Boettcher 7–6 in a close final to claim the championship title.
In the Senior Boys Competition, Jacob Tobin from San Clemente Catholic College, Mayfield was named champion, with Oliver Mullard from Trinity Catholic College, Adamstown finishing runner-up.
Isabella Rankine from St Mary’s Catholic College, Gateshead was crowned Senior Girls Champion.
