The NRL indigenous round is just a few weeks away and this year, Newcastle Knights players will be taking to the field in some very special and colourful boots.
They have been designed and painted by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Catherine McAuley Catholic College in Medowie.
Student Laura Chang is painting Dylan’s boots and gave the journalist some insight into her designs and choice of colours. She says, “It’s a really great opportunity and experience to have; to not only show my culture but also show culture off for all Indigenous people around Australia.”
Dylan says, “She is doing a great job. I love them so far and I can’t wait to wear them. To see how much the program has grown over the last couple of years; the kids are really diving into it. I think it helps them learn a little bit about themselves; they can work out a bit of their own identity, and they can put their own story on the boots.”
ABC Newcastle reporter Laurise Dickson got a sneak peek at their final painting session today and was also there when Knights star Dylan Lucas dropped by!
