In the Media: Meet the teen running 100km non-stop to raise money for kids with cancer

TWO-hundred-and-fifty laps. One hundred kilometres. Non-stop.

That’s 17-year-old Toby Moloney’s goal next month when he takes on a run to raise funds for the Kids with Cancer Foundation on August 17.

“I am fundraising in the best way I can to help sick kids throughout Australia and help support families that have a child suffering cancer,” he said.

The year 12 St Mary’s Catholic College Gateshead student will lap the track at Maitland Athletic’s Centre in an event that will test his mental and physical ability.

“I’m doing this because I want to make an impact on people’s lives. I feel like everyone has a chance to do something good, it’s just if they want to take action and get out of their comfort zone,” he said.

Toby has been training four times a week over 16 weeks, battling illness and injuries to prepare for the marathon.

It’s a mix of going to the gym and running,” he said.

He said he liked to challenge himself, which was also part of the reason for doing the run.

“I think it will help to prepare myself for life ahead when I’m older. I need to believe that I can do something ambitious like this and I’ll realise that a lot more is possible than I actually think,” he said.

“I hope it inspires others to do the same. People can go past their limits,” he said.

His family and friends will join him on August 17 to support his run, and he encourages people to come and run with him.

Toby has a fundraising page where he is hoping to raise as much money as possible for the charity.
