St Michael’s Primary School, Nelson Bay, marked a significant milestone last week with the official blessing and opening of its Stage 1 and Stage 2 building works.
Bishop Michael Kennedy joined Director of Schools Jacqueline Wilkinson, Principal Helen Bourne, parish representatives, staff, students and invited guests to celebrate the completion of the project, which delivers a new administration building fronting Wahgunyah Road, two additional learning spaces, refurbishment across existing blocks and upgraded outdoor play areas.
The development strengthens the school’s identity within the local community and provides contemporary learning environments that support the needs of students now and into the future.
In her address, Mrs Wilkinson reflected on the Diocese’s long-standing commitment to Catholic education in the Port Stephens region and the importance of investing in facilities that enable students to learn, grow and thrive close to home.
Principal Helen Bourne spoke of the school’s Mercy heritage and the journey to bring the project to life, describing the new spaces as a response to the needs of students and a gift to future generations of St Michael’s families.
The event concluded with a blessing of the new facilities, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the life of the school.
The Diocese extends its sincere thanks to the NSW Government and the Catholic Community Fund for their financial support, and to the Diocesan Property Team and project partners, CKDS Architects and Connex Management and Construction, whose expertise and collaboration brought the development to life.
