Building Understanding and Belonging at St Joseph’s Taree

9th June, 2026

Recently St Joseph’s Primary School, Taree was privileged to welcome ‘Together For Humanity’, who delivered engaging and thought-provoking workshops for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Through age-appropriate activities, stories and discussions, students explored important themes including respect, inclusion and understanding different perspectives. The workshops encouraged students to reflect on the richness of diversity within the St Joseph’s community and to recognise the importance of treating others with kindness, empathy and understanding. Many students were able to connect personally with the stories, traditions and experiences shared by the guest presenters.

Following the student sessions, Together For Humanity facilitated an informative workshop for parents and staff, focusing on racism, inclusion, cultural diversity and the importance of fostering acceptance within school and community settings. A highlight of the day was a panel discussion featuring St Joseph’s Aboriginal Education Workers, who generously shared their cultural backgrounds, personal stories and lived experiences. Their contributions provided valuable insights and encouraged meaningful reflection among participants.

The workshops reinforced St Joseph’s commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every person is valued, respected and celebrated. By promoting understanding, empathy and connection, the day provided a valuable opportunity for students, staff and families to strengthen the sense of belonging that lies at the heart of the school community.
