Called to Serve Mass

31st January, 2026

Bishop Michael presided over the 2026 Called to Serve Mass on Thursday 29 January at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

The Cathedral was filled with a strong spirit of unity as colleagues came together to seek God’s blessing for the work we are called to carry out in our schools and communities throughout the year ahead.

Bishop Michael described the occasion as an “opportunity for the Catholic school community to express their commitment to serve the mission of Jesus Christ in the ministry of Catholic school education.” The commissioning and blessing of those who share the privilege of ministry in Catholic Education was a moving part of the ceremony, with Bishop Michael offering his support and prayers especially to first year teachers and those new to our Diocese.

The names of all staff who work across Catholic Schools, were offered in the procession to acknowledge all that work across the Diocese in its different ministries are indeed called to serve.

Following the formalities, attendees enjoyed a light supper in the Victor Peters Suite.
