World Environment Day, observed on 5 June each year, encourages worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. Locally, the Diocese is making an active contribution.
From Aberdeen to Taree, and Merriwa to Swansea, in 2024 the Diocese embarked on an ambitious project to install dozens of solar systems at schools throughout the region. Working with local contractor Photon Energy, we identified the most suitable schools for the rollout, considering factors like available sunlight, ease of access, and appropriate roof space.
As of February 2025, a total of 1.6 megawatts of solar panels have been installed on the roofs of 29 schools, expanding our solar footprint to 39 schools over the past five years.
This project marks a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future, reducing our reliance on power sourced from the grid.

This initiative is part of the Diocese’s Sustainability Plan 2022-2025, demonstrating our commitment to environmental leadership and setting a positive example for the community.
