Dio SSSA Tennis Championships

On Thursday 12 June, 22 students from the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese competed in the Diocesan Tennis Championships at Newcastle City Tennis Courts. The students were blessed with a beautiful day and were witnesses to some fantastic games of tennis 🎾

Girls (7-9) Junior Competition

The junior girls played 7 games in a round robin tournament throughout the year, with the top four players progressing to the Semi-Finals (Alexis Palmer, Kate Atkinson, Rachel Jenkins, and Lailah Wallace).

Rachel Jenkins from Catherine McAuley Catholic College, Medowie, and Alexis Palmer from All Saints’ Catholic College, Maitland, won their respective semi-finals and competed against each other in the final, with Rachel winning and being named Diocesan Junior Champion.

Boys (7-9) Junior Competition

The Junior boys played 6 games in a 2 pool round robin tournament, where the top 2 from each pool progressed to the semi-finals (Edward Hutley, Dante Spadari, Jacob Tobin and Oliver Mullard).

Dante and Jacob, both from San Clemente Catholic College, Mayfield, won their respective semi finals and competed against each other in the final. In what was a very close game and showcased some excellent tennis, the final score was 6-4. Congratulations to our Diocesan Junior Champion Jacob Tobin.

Boys (9-12) Senior  Champion 

Isaac Flanagan from Trinity Catholic College, Adamstown was the winner of the senior boys division.
