The 5th Annual Diocesan Spelling and Maths Bee Championships were held at Rosary Park Branxton on Friday 27 June.
36 of the best spellers and Mental Maths exponents tested their skills against the best in the Diocese. To qualify for the championships, students had to win in the regional competitions.
The standard this year was the best it has been, especially in spelling! Mr Ashley Borg, Convenor of the Bees, wished to thank all of the schools, teachers, students and parents, who supported the event. In particular he wished to than Ms Jessica Adamson (St Patrick’s Cessnock) and Ms Maree Pittaway, Catholic Schools Gifted Education Officer for their assistance in both the Regional and Diocesan competitions.
It was also wonderful to see Mrs Jacqueline Wilkinson, Director of Catholic Schools Maitland-Newcastle, attend the event and present some awards to the students.
We can’t wait to be back bigger and better next year!
