First to finish

5th December, 2025

There was laughter, a few tears and a strong sense of pride as Catherine McAuley Catholic College, Medowie, farewelled its very first graduating class in late 2025.

This group of young people have not only witnessed the school’s growth, but helped shape it from the ground up.

When the College opened in 2021, these students were among the first to walk through the gates with new uniforms, new classrooms and a brand-new community still finding its rhythm. Four years later, they’ve become the heartbeat of the school. They are the trailblazers and the storytellers.

Head of House, Bronwyn Denham, followed the graduating class from Year 8 through to their graduation. She said their courage and sense of community has grown each year as they led the school as the first ever cohort.

“This particular group has really pushed themselves and strived for the best,” Bronwyn said.

“It’s been beautiful to watch them grow and set the precedence for the student body of Catherine McAuley. We are so proud and grateful for their leadership, as well as the example they have set for the generations to come.”

Teachers spoke proudly of the group’s determination and the way they supported each other through challenges, from lockdowns and exams to the big unknowns of being the first to do it all.

Students graduating made it known that the friendships formed and milestones achieved would last with them well beyond the school gates.

For Year 12 student Amy, the experience has been unforgettable.

“It’s been amazing to be part of something that’s still growing. The school has changed around us with new buildings and more students, and we got to be part of creating its legacy. We’ll always be the first, and that’s something really special.”

The graduates now leave as young adults ready to take their next steps into study, trades, travel or work, carrying with them the Mercy values that guided their time at the college.

Though this milestone marks the end of their time at Catherine McAuley, the legacy of the first graduating class will continue in every student who walks the halls after them.

They have set the tone and the heart of a new school still growing into its identity. And in turn, Catherine McAuley has shaped them into people ready to step confidently into their futures.
