Incredible Experience for our Year 12 NRL School to Work Students

12th August, 2025

On Friday August 8th year 12 students represented our Diocese by dancing at the Knights vs Panthers game as part of the Indigenous round. The students were Ella Howitt and Meleane Anapu from Saint Francis Xavier’s Catholic College Hamilton and Natureh Fenton-Holt and Isabella Sumner from Catherine McAuley Catholic College Medowie.

This opportunity was offered to the students as part of the NRL School to Work program. NRL school to work is a program that supports and assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as they transition from year 12 into the workforce or tertiary education, while including a cultural connection throughout. There were 40 students total from local high schools both public and Catholic, this is the first time our Catholic schools have been involved and proved to be an invaluable experience for our students to create connections with their culture and wider community.

It was an incredible experience for our Year 12 NRL School to Work students. The girls had an amazing time and deeply valued the opportunity to not only strengthen their cultural connections but also share their culture with such a wide audience. This is an experience they will carry with them for a lifetime. We are proud to have a strong partnership with the NRL School to Work program, enabling us to offer such meaningful opportunities to our students (Leah Nolan and Marissa Deaves, Aboriginal Education Teachers)
