The Emmaus Award for Excellence in Primary Teaching was recently presented to Jeanette Chapman. This award honoured not only her remarkable skill as an educator, but also her unwavering dedication to nurturing students in faith, creativity, and community.
For more than 20 years, Jeanette has inspired generations of students across our Diocese, working across multiple primary schools, building a sense of community and fostering strong connections with both staff and students. She has most recently shared her gifts at St John’s Primary School, Lambton, St Columba’s Primary School, Adamstown, Corpus Christi Primary School, Waratah and Holy Family Primary School, Merewether Beach.
As a Creative Arts Specialist, Jeanette brought confidence and self-expression into the lives of countless children. Her student-centred approach ensured that every child felt valued and heard, encouraging them to reach their fullest potential. With her deep knowledge of the Creative Arts curriculum, she used innovative and engaging techniques to inspire both high achievers and those who needed extra encouragement, ensuring all students could shine.
Her impact is felt not only in the classroom but also in the wider school and Parish community. Jeanette has written and directed countless school musicals, filling them with joy, energy, and inclusivity. She strengthens Parish-School relationships, contributes to Liturgy and serves as a liturgical minister at school masses and Parish events.
Her creativity and expertise also reached a wider stage through her role as a vocal coach for ASPIRE, where she mentored talented students and helped them discover their potential. Known for her choreography, musical arrangements and audiovisual expertise, Jeanette enriched countless school and diocesan events, leaving an unforgettable mark on all who took part.
A gifted musician, an organiser of extraordinary talent and above all, a passionate educator, Jeanette has left a legacy that will continue to inspire students, staff, and families for years to come. Her work has celebrated the power of the arts as a pathway to faith, connection, and growth, an achievement worthy of the highest recognition.
