Karlie Marriott Represents Diocese on Global STEM Stage

4th September, 2025

At the beginning of term three, Year 12 student Karlie Marriott from St Francis Xavier’s College, Hamilton, embarked on an extraordinary journey to London after being awarded a prestigious LIYSF STEM Scholarship.

The London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) is a globally renowned event that brings together young science enthusiasts from over 80 countries. Karlie was one of only two Aboriginal students selected to represent not only her school but also her country. An achievement that speaks volumes about her dedication and passion for science.

Currently studying biology and extension science as part of her HSC, Karlie has aspirations to pursue medicine next year. Her time at LIYSF was filled with unforgettable experiences: hearing from Nobel Peace Prize winners, attending lectures by leading scientists, and visiting iconic institutions such as Cambridge University, Oxford University and Buckingham Palace. She also had the honour of hearing Princess Royal Anne, the forum’s patron, address the group.

Beyond the academic enrichment, Karlie had the opportunity to connect with like-minded students from across the globe, sharing ideas, building networks, and representing St Francis Xavier’s College on an international stage.

St Francis Xavier’s College Hamilton is incredibly proud of Karlie’s achievements in this global forum. Her journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when passion meets opportunity.
