Maitland-Newcastle students thrive on the National Stage

1st December, 2025

Over the last week, several exceptional athletes from Catholic Schools of Maitland-Newcastle competed at School Sport Australia National Athletics Championships in Canberra.

Athletes battled gale force winds, sunshine and scattered showers to compete against the best Australia has to offer. New friendships were made, old friends reunited and swap pins trades negotiated as if it were an event of its own!

Oliver Sciulli from St Joseph’s Primary School, Merewether was national runner up in the 100m Sprint and 200m Sprint as well as being in the gold medal winning NSW 12 yr Boys Relay Team.

Talented distance runner Miller Austin from St Columba’s Primary School, Adamstown medaled in both the 800m and 1500m events receiving bronze. She ran a personal best in the 800m event.

Sienna Compton from St Aloysius Primary School, Chisholm achieved three bronze medals – 12 Years Girls 100m, 200m & 800m Multi-Class. Sienna was also a member of the gold medal winning 10-12 yrs 800m Medley Relay.
