Last Friday over 140 students from Catholic Schools Maitland-Newcastle represented our diocese at the Polding Athletics Championships. Our Diocese hosted the event with families travelling from as far as Lismore, Armidale, Bathurst, Wilcannia Forbes and Broken Bay.
Maitland-Newcastle students performed very well with an exceptional 23 individual students medaling and qualifying for the Polding squad to compete at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Many of these students medaled in multiple events, while a huge number of students made it to the finals and represented our Diocese with pride as they ran, threw and jumped to the best of their ability. Congratulations to each student who attended.
Miller Austin from St Joseph’s Primary School, Charlestown started the day by setting a new record in the girls 11 yrs 800m with a sensational time of 2:23.46. Miller backed this up with another incredible run in the 1500m Girls 11yrs smashing the previous record by 12 seconds – 4:52.65.
Cruz Mansley from St Benedict’s Primary School, Edgeworth continues to impress with his outstanding run in the boys 8-10 years 1500m where he broke the record with a time of 4:52.98.
