Polding Winter Sport kicked off last week with great success for the Catholic Schools of Maitland-Newcastle representatives in Girls and Boys Soccer.
Girls
The team from Maitland-Newcastle had a very successful day, remaining undefeated all day, with only one goal scored against them in the five games they played. Congratulations to Phoebe Keeling, Maeva Clifford and Lyla Sofiak, who made it to the Possibles and Probables.
Phoebe was strong striker for our team and scored a number of fantastic and very confident goals. Maeva showed great tenacity and skill on the ball in the midfield, outplaying her opponents on many occasions, and Lyla played some amazing, solid defence.
Congratulations and good luck to Phoebe, who was selected in the Polding Team to play at the State Championships in Ballina!
Boys
Game 1 – The boys were prepared and came out of the blocks firing demonstrating a convincing team display.
Game 2 – The boys started fast and played extremely well and put on another great display.
Game 3 – The boys suffered an early blow but kept pushing until the end, but could not claw the result back.
Game 4 – The boys played some beautiful football without the ball hitting the back of the net in a drawn match.
Game 5 – The boys dominated from start to finish and played their best game of the day.
In summary, the Catholic Schools of Maitland-Newcastle performed extremely well, with six players selected for the Possible and Probable lineups. All players showed great ability in this match, and our Diocese was rewarded with five players making the full Polding Team:
This is an outstanding result.
All the best to the players who will represent at the NSWPSSA event in Ballina next term.
