On Thursday 26 June, students from the Catholic Schools of Maitland-Newcastle’s Virtual Academy stepped into the shoes of world leaders for the annual G20 Summit 2025 – Diplomatic Simulation.
Over the course of the day, the Board Room at the Catholic Schools of Maitland-Newcastle office was transformed into a hub of international diplomacy as students collaborated, negotiated and debated global issues in a dynamic simulation that mirrored real-world G20 processes. Representing various nations, students addressed pressing challenges such as climate change, global health, and the evolving influence of social media.
The agenda was broad and ambitious. Delegates tackled topics including ecology and sustainability, wildlife protection, and international health policy. A highlight of the day was an engaging emergency response simulation where students worked through a mock Food and Water Security Crisis, testing their ability to respond to intricate and nuanced situations with cooperation, and compassion.
This event is a unique opportunity for our Virtual Academy students to lead discussions on the future of our planet, proving that the next generation of changemakers is already preparing to make a global impact.
