Team Sporting Wins across our Schools

4th May, 2026

Across our schools, students have been proudly representing their communities in a range of sporting competitions. Their commitment, teamwork, and impressive results speak for themselves. Read on to celebrate their exceptional accomplishments.

Diocesan Soccer Selections

Last Wednesday, talented soccer students from our 12 secondary schools gathered at Speers Point for the opportunity to be selected for the Diocesan Team, which will compete on 26–27 May in Sydney at the NSWCCC Selections. Team lists are available on the Diocesan website: https://csnsw.sport/maitland-newcastle/secondary/sport/football-soccer

Polding Soccer:

Our Diocesan boys football team displayed some dominating performances throughout their 5 round games. In particular games 4 & 5 the boys commanding performance from start to finish, playing brilliant attacking football ending the trial rounds with great confidence. An outstanding 6 players selected for the possible/probable’s team. They were:

  1. Brabham Cooper (Holy Name, Forster)
  2. Chase Partlic (St Therese’s, New Lambton)
  3. Harrison Dunn (St Aloysius, Chisholm)
  4. Hamish Platt (St Benedict’s, Edgeworth)
  5. Owen Keegan (St Joseph’s, Charlestown)
  6. Finn Callinan (St Joseph’s, Merewether)

After a tough possible probable’s match, 5 players were selected in the Polding team with only Finn Callinan narrowly missing out. Coach John Majurovski said all 10 players gave their all throughout the whole event.

The Maitland Newcastle Girls soccer team was incredible to watch with a very high standard of skill. The team performed exceptionally well, being undefeated all day and having no goals scored against them from any other Diocese! We had 6 of the team chosen for possible and probables, with 4 eventually being selected for the Polding team. Congratulations to Kara Todd St Brigids Raymond Terrace, Lola Brooks St Catherine’s Singleton, Anna Donnelly St James Kotara South and Emelyn McManus St Joseph’s Charlestown.

All the best to both teams at NSWPSSA.

Polding Hockey:

A very strong Maitland-Newcastle Diocesan boys hockey team participated with great skill, sportmanship and a love of the game, across the entire Polding trials. All athletes involved were outstanding representatives of the Diocese. Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent Polding at the NSWPSSA Hockey Championships. Jonathon Buckett St Michael’s Nelson Bay, Benjamin Cashman St Therese’s New Lambton, Harvey Deveridge Corpus Christi Waratah, Jacob Eccleston St Therese’s New Lambton, Reuben Edge Corpus Christi Waratah, Otto Gruschka St Joseph’s Charlestown, Alfred Richardson Corpus Christi Waratah and Harry Skippen St Paul’s Gateshead.

This year our girls combined with the Wilcannia-Forbes Diocese to create the self titled “New-Cannia” hockey team. The girls were wonderfully positive (even creating their own chant) and respectful all day regardless of results. They should be very proud of the hockey they played.

The following students will be representing our Diocese at the Polding level:

Congratulations to all athletes who placed in the top six and have qualified to progress to the NSWCCC Cross Country Championships in Week 10 of this term.
