On Friday 13 February we had the privilege of welcoming our 2026 Virtual Academy students to the University of Newcastle, Callaghan Campus for VA Connect 2026.
VA Connect was thoughtfully designed to prepare students for success in the Virtual Academy – introducing them to the digital platforms, learning systems and tools they will use throughout the year, while also creating space for connection, belonging and aspiration.
Across the day, students:
- Built confidence navigating Microsoft Teams and OneNote
- Engaged with expectations for high-quality online learning
- Met their Virtual Academy Educators
- Connected with like-minded peers from across our 58 schools
More than a technical induction, the day affirmed the why of the Virtual Academy – bringing together high potential and gifted learners to learn deeply, think critically and belong to a community that recognises and nurtures their abilities. The energy was tangible. Students were curious, collaborative and genuinely excited about the year ahead.
Events of this scale require collaboration, precision and commitment. The professionalism demonstrated reflects the strength of our HPGE network and our shared dedication to excellence.
The foundation has now been set for a year of deep learning, innovation and connection.
