St Joseph's Primary School, Charlestown, aims to provide quality Catholic education by creating a learning community committed to ensuring every child is given the opportunity to achieve their very best within the classroom.

The school’s unique lush bush setting provides a stimulating environment for children to learn and play and gives them the opportunity to develop an awareness and appreciation of the environment.

The school is purpose-built to facilitate team teaching and gives teachers the opportunity to work collaboratively in their planning and delivery of learning. The recent construction of new buildings and refurbishment of existing facilities means the school community is equipped with modern and engaging learning environments to allow the delivery of a comprehensive curriculum. The large open plan classrooms are equipped with interactive SMARTboards, iPads, laptops and wireless internet to deliver a contemporary learning approach and help students with learning difficulties.

St Joseph’s offers a range of sports across both their internal and external sporting program, giving students the opportunity to compete at representative level in swimming, cross country, athletics, netball, tennis, soccer, rugby league, rugby union, touch football, AFL, cricket, basketball, hockey and softball. The school also runs a weekly in-school sports program where students can participate in gymnastics, dance, tennis and basketball.

St Joseph’s has a strong Anti-Bullying culture and works constantly to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all students. As a “Kidsmatter” school, St Joseph’s actively promotes daily initiatives that support the social and emotional wellbeing of all students and provide regular parent information evenings on relevant topics such as cybersafety, dealing with anxiety in children and understanding puberty and relationships.

Students at St Joseph's have many opportunities to be involved in extra-curricular activities including chess, choir, debating, public speaking and Tournament of Minds.

St Joseph’s has an onsite Out of School Hours Care Unit managed by the YMCA, which gives families the convenience of care from 7am to 8.30am each morning and 3pm to 6pm each afternoon.

Students of St Joseph's Primary School, Charlestown, are encouraged to continue their Catholic education by attending St Mary's Catholic College, Gateshead.
