St John's Primary School, Lambton is located within the confines of the historic Lambton Village, encompassing the Elder Street shop fronts and 12 hectares of parkland, recreational equipment, tennis courts, soccer fields, Library and an Olympic swimming and diving pool. Students readily access these facilities as they are a short stroll away from school.

St John's is a single stream community encompassing Kindergarten to Year 6. The school was established in 1883 by the Sisters of Mercy to educate the children of miners and workers employed in the nearby mine. The mine has since closed but St John's has gone from strength to strength as a leading school, assisting families in the development of their children as well as embarking on exploring practical ways in which students are able to incorporate 21st century technology into their learning.

All classrooms encompass modern facilities, the latest print and digital teaching resources, new furnishings and air-conditioning. All classrooms and the Library are equipped with interactive whiteboards which staff utilise in their daily classroom practices. A specialist Teacher Librarian oversees the Library resources incorporating a Windows computer bank, well stocked children's and parent library as well as teaching specialist lessons each week.

Parents are recognised as being the first educators of the children working in close partnership with professional teachers. The St John's Parents and Friends Association exists for the benefit of all members of the community and is seen as an integral component of the school's structure.

All St John's students participate weekly in a specialist music program. Stage 2 & 3 students also have the opportunity to participate in the St John's School Band. The Band operates through private tuition each Monday in a variety of musical disciplines; keyboard, percussion, brass and woodwind. A recent successful addition to the Band has been the introduction of a drumming troupe.

At St John's students have a wide range of opportunities to participate in sporting, academic, creative and performing arts, cultural and community. Special targeted programs cater for the diverse learning needs of the students under the guidance of a qualified Learning Support Teacher and a Pastoral Care Worker employed under the auspices of DEEWR to oversee academic, welfare and social skills programs.

Students of St John's Primary School, Lambton are encouraged to continue their Catholic education by attending St Pius X High School, Adamstown.
