St Joseph's Primary School, Bulahdelah is a small Kindergarten to Year 6 Catholic systemic school which is part of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. It services the town of Bulahdelah and surrounding communities including Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest, Coolongolook and Wootton. Bulahdelah is located in the beautiful Myall/Great Lakes area, about an hour north of Newcastle.
A recent capital works program has seen the school rebuilt and our students and staff now enjoy the comforts of a modern, air conditioned and well-resourced teaching environment in a pleasant rural setting. The large, beautiful grounds include a soccer field, covered play equipment, basketball court, cubby house and peace garden.
The school was founded in 1955 by the Sisters of St Joseph who remain part of its proud tradition. The school Vision and Mission Statement is: 'Loving, Learning and Living like Jesus. St Joseph's are (and strive to be) a future oriented, caring and child focused community, celebrating and treasuring individual gifts.'
The school achieves this mission by giving students opportunities to use their gifts and reach their potential through a variety of academic, sporting, cultural and spiritual experiences and activities. The school also offers many quality teaching and learning programs including K-6 Guided Reading, Ants in the Apple, Count Me In Too and Lexia, to help cater for the individual needs of all students.
The school has a strong focus on Information Technology, with a well-equipped computer lab and Interactive Smartboards used regularly in classrooms. A specialist music teacher, Learning Support Teacher and Teacher Librarian are employed and a range of environmental initiatives, including a vegetable garden, chickens, frog pond, weather station and native gardens are integrated into the curriculum. The school has also implemented a daily P.E program, 'Crunch and Sip' and is 'Asthma Friendly'.
St Joseph's is actively involved in the Bulahdelah parish and local community and has a very supportive P&F Association.
Most importantly our school is a small, caring and intimate family-like community built on a genuine care and compassion for its students, and a religious place where everyone can experience a living faith centred on the person and message of Jesus.
Students of St Joseph's Primary School, Bulahdelah are encouraged to continue their Catholic education by attending St Clare's High School, Taree.
