Aspiring Middle Leaders

The Aspiring Middle Leaders Course is a targeted professional development opportunity for teachers wishing to explore future career pathways of middle leadership.

This program is specifically designed to support aspirational teachers to develop a deep understanding of the transition from classroom teacher to a ‘leader of teachers’ and to prepare them for the recruiting process.

Strategically planned as a precursor to the two significant recruiting periods in the year – June and August, it is intended that participation in the program will encourage these teachers to take the next step in their career pathway with a sound commitment to embracing the leadership behaviours of the MN Leadership Framework.

This online course, offered in both May and July/August, takes place over three consecutive weeks, with a format of:

  • 3 x 2-hour workshop sessions:
    • Leadership Identity: navigating the transition from ‘teacher’ to ‘leader of teachers’
    • Middle Leadership: leading in a school from the middle
    • Leadership Pathways: preparing for successful recruitment
  • 1–1 coaching sessions with the Leadership Coach K–12
  • Career pathway coaching with representatives from Human Resources
  • Recruitment preparation

Inspiring Middle Leadership

The Inspiring Middle Leadership Program is a comprehensive professional development opportunity for middle leaders in the first three years of their leadership journey.

The program aims to build, support and sustain the significant role our middle leadership team has in ensuring system and school improvement. It is an opportunity to build a network of leaders across the Diocese aligned to system priorities. Our participants will learn how to develop a culture that encourages continuous improvement through acknowledging, sharing and celebrating the responsibility of leading learning innovation in contemporary education.

It is aligned to the MN Leadership Framework, the APST Highly Accomplished Standards, and the 14 Parameters of System and School Improvement.

To minimise disruption in the school context, these workshop sessions will be delivered online. In each term, there will be an additional peer-to-peer coaching session to be arranged by participants.

This online course takes place over ONE year with the following format:

  • 12 x 1 hour workshop sessions
  • 1–1 and/or small group coaching sessions with the Leadership Coach K–12
  • Career pathway coaching with representatives from Human Resources
  • Professional learning plan (PPLP) development
  • Peer-to-peer coaching
  • Guest speakers from the group and across dioceses
